underwater landscapes

Kaş, once an unspoiled fishing village, is now a relatively unspoiled tourist town on the southern bulge of Turkey’s Mediterranean coast. The area around Kas belongs to the Top 100 diving destinations worldwide. This is because this area have an high amount of underwater life, combined with very clear water (up to 40 meters visibility) and beautiful underwater landscapes. Actually there are around 30 different dive spots and many great places for swimming and snorkelling:  a destination really worth a Turkey holidays, in my opinion. Always, while I’m afloat on the sea surface, I know that a more or less intense underwater life is going on just under my feet: this fact simply makes me feel dizzy!  What then,  if you are bathing or -better- snorkelling a diving spot notoriously crowded by baracudas, stingrays, sea-turtles, rare snails, dorades, jack-fishes, soldier-fishes, octopusses, muray-eels, trumpet-fishes, brasses of many kinds, as well as huge groupers? What would be your feeling when so many amazing underwater lifeforms are to be seen regulary in unpolluted and crystal clear sea waters like Kaş’ ones? Would you realize at last, that a crowded, sunken and parallel world coexists with the one we are used to  ive in?

Swimming in open sea is my favourite sport: yet it scares me a little. As soon as I jump into the water, some sort of split tongued spirit talks and says out of the vast sea: “maybe you could sink and die”. When the spirit talks louder my worries can’t be denied. But I never gave up. On the contrary I keep my eyes wide open, looking for some potential danger…
The waters out of Boracay’s beach are always damn crowded by fast boats cruising at any time of the day. It is a real hassle, since local pilots seem to care absolutely nothing of swimmers, nor to understand how fragile a floating man is. It’s hard for me to forget the time when a fast paraw nearly broke me down…The reckless driver simply couldn’t see me, I guess because of the dusk…

Summer time is over, at last. I’m just coming from the beach: I dared once upon a time cold October waters and took my last swim. I’m almost frozen and now I don’t want to go out, I am not in the mood…The blues you know, the moody blues is always taking me over a little, in autumn…
I know that I am going to find myself often watching the clouds running in the sky, and the rain cracking the branches upon my window… And when it happens, I can’t find anything better than eating some bizarre oriental dishes, which invariably get the power of defying my subtle sort of melancholy…

Aug.15. What a mess! Summer holidays in Italy: everybody goes swimming! Even myself who braved the oceans (eh, eh) now braves beaches crowded by dangerous local species: scoresof  kids restlessly jumping into the water, old sun burned skin-divers who frantically crop mussels.
Looking for wild creatures? nothing …
