I have been visiting once upon a time, the little natural reserve of “Ripa Bianca”, just a few kilometres from home, on May, the 25th. It is a very  little area, sponsored by Italian WWF , bordering the river: actually an ideal spot for bird watching.
And I was trilled by watching, just befor sunset, a magnificent couple of herons flying slow and steady: a mother heron with its baby.

Summer time is over, at last. I’m just coming from the beach: I dared once upon a time cold October waters and took my last swim. I’m almost frozen and now I don’t want to go out, I am not in the mood…The blues you know, the moody blues is always taking me over a little, in autumn…
Now I know that I am going to find myself often watching the clouds running in the sky, and the rain cracking the branches upon my window… And when it happens, I can’t find anything better than eating some bizarre oriental dishes, which invariably get the power of defying my subtle sort of melancholy…

sailingship ancona travel illustration aynaku

My grandfather was born in 1898. In his younger days he watched more than once the sailing ships at anchor in our hometown harbour. In his spare time he enjoyed oil painting, wasn’t so bad a painter and sailing ships where among his favourite subjects. According to my mother, his daughter, I was then a rather scornful kid and it seems that my grandfather only had the power to cool me down. In the memories of my childhood there is actually a beautiful drawing of a Spanish galleon that he presented me once. That valuable paper got lost somewhere, but sailing ships has been the number one subject of my early doodles too, (perhaps because of the Mendel’ Laws ), indeed a real obsession! So this is my personal thanksgiving to my old dear relative who died in the early seventies. And maybe this imaginary vessel of mine somehow correlates with the anchoring of the Mayflower at Cape Cod…

Aug.15. What a mess! Summer holidays in Italy and everybody goes swimming! Even myself who braved the oceans…eh, eh, now braves crowdie beaches and dangerous local species, such as bunches of kids restlessly jumping into the water, and sun burned skin-divers who frantically crop tons …
