grouper lapulapu aynaku illustration travel

Red groupers typically have a stout body and a large mouth. They are not built for long-distance fast swimming. They can be quite large, usually largest fish of the grouper family, and their body, soft dorsal and anal fins, are covered with scales and thick skin.
Lapu Lapu is the Pilipino name for red grouper. In the archipelago they are important food fish.
As most other fish species which are sold in the market (talipapa) groupers are generally sold very fresh and, sometimes almost alive…The flesh is snowy white and can be cooked either as filets cut thin or as steaks cut thick.

Illustration Friday’s topic is: scales

Interesting fish! This is the 2nd time this week I have heard about a fish that reverses from female to male! Pretty amazing! Really like the layout and tone to your picture and the recipe sounds delish!

I love your red grouper painting. Thanks for you kind comments over the months that Mrs. T was writing about Shrew Khan.

In a month I’ll be leaving for Rarotonga. I’ll be snorkeling there. I wonder if I would see a red grouper. Probably not, because I doubt I would see one in shallow water, right?

Nice illo massimo!

Bron, yes you might see them there too. but they probably be not so big, more elongated, and the spots not so noticeable. There are also other goupers, same fish/shape but with blackish,or beige spots.

Yes, its good fish to eat, any which way you do it.
