wedding dodanduwa aynaku illustration travel

In Dondaduwa, a Sri Lanka south-west located coastal little town, I was invited to a local wedding breakfast. I felt honoured by this unexpected ask and was really curious. Just past the sunset, a little crowd of friends and relatives gathered an open space behind the beach and a row of poor fishermen houses. The bride and the bridegroom were set a little apart, sitting on a pair of little armchairs, smiling silently to their guests and –apparently- never talking to each other. A few young boys, waiters actually, a tray full of spare cigarettes or candies in their hands, moved politely about the guest. A few soft drinks were drunk by women and kids while the men allowed themselves some bottle of arrack
Last July, when my sister got married and celebrated comfortably, I couldn’t escape remembering and balancing this poor and intense Sri Lanka party.

Illustration Friday’s topic is: wedding

Most of the travel agencies deem you their resposibility from the moment of flight arrival to the stay at a florida destination or to a heavenly ski resort. They find you the best hard rock hotel, and the best hotel rate they can bargain upon.

It’s amazing when one can see the different ways that people have to express their love and compromise, and although they look different in the surface, most of the time the feeling is the same :)

Saludos Massimo.

Ciao Massimo
ben trovato - sono contenta che il salento ti sia piaciuto - invece la mia esperienza in marocco non è stata entusiasmante (non per i luoghi ma per il fatto che avevo scelto di andarci in tuor!! mai più!!!)
ciao a presto
