mentaway trampsteamer aynaku illustration travel

The Mentaway Archipelago located  in the Indian Ocean, at about 100 miles off Sumatra’s west coast, used to be  far off beaten tourists’ routes…
A small cargo ship,  a tramp steamer almost, shuttled among those islands, carrying stuff of all sort and a few passengers. Coming to each island, the slow cargo finally anchored a few hundred meters from the seashore, waiting for the natives coming by means of paddle boats to get their stuff…it was a time consuming processes, and a beautiful way of travelling by sea. On board that ship I was too; as the only first-class paying passenger, I had the privilege of sleeping in the captain’s little cabin, instead of lying low the bare and rusty deck meant to ordinary native passengers. When off his duty the captain, a young ,cute and well mannered fellow, spent his time in the cabin and liked to tell about his young wife and family, who lived somewhere in the islands, in a house, he said, “where you can’t see the ocean, nor hear its sound”…

Illustration Friday’s topic is: captain

For car rental ireland is basically a new terrain, but is a much preferred vacation spot than us destinations due to its numerous well-maintained foxwoods resort. This is also because the standard of facilities provided there closely match to those of luxury, which is so popular amongst vacationers.

I love the story, and I think the illustration is fantastic, and I would definitely want to be a “first class passenger” on that steamer.

It’s so neat-o the way I learn so much about life through your blog! The Tramp Steamer seems so adventurous and cool. Your illo is wonderful, mysterious and reminds me of some of my favourite old movies or Poirot where they travel on ships in lavish style. I knew you would write and create a perfect post for this prompt and you did not disappoint!!!

I think id be like that captain and live as far from the sea as possible since hes on it all the time. It would be like a lil vaction inland. Nice illo and story of ur adventures as always

That’s so nice, but I bet he couldn’t manage stay there (so far from the sea) for more than a week ;)

I loved your illo, Massimo, but I guess u already knew that :)
