Sometimes a wonderful, enchanting place is just behind the corner and once doesn’t really need to travel so far away. Accidentally a few months ago, it happened to me to come across the beautiful Sassovivo Abbey. The abbey, located in Italy’ central county of Umbria, is just a three hours drive from maritime Ancona, my hometown.
This abbey it is absolutely worth the visit: it stands on the declivity of Mt. Serrone (1000 mt) and it is famous for its beautiful rectangular Roman cloister with its 128 pillars. The exquisite elegance and balance of the work, completed in 1229, has survived the damage of time and man. Built around a square plan, the roof of the cloister rest on arches that are supported by elegant twisted columns, surmounted by lily-shaped capitols…
