ukiyo-e aynaku travel illustration

Maybe I should put forward for this week’s topic my whole blog! Actually every Aynaku’s post relates to memory so I consider that my most recent submission should make no exception, and be one of Aynaku’s most typical. My very first time on board a sailing boat is firmly fixed in my mind: I was nine years old and the calling of wind and sea was already precise. I remember my excitement when the crew set sail and the boat left. It all happened under my parent’s benevolent and worried eyes: waving their hands from the dock, they valued the possibility of an accidental jump into the water… still I couldn’t swim that well!
The second memory related to this illo, is my great fascination for Japanese ukiyo-e which dates
back to my trip to Japan in 1993. You know, some memories can’t wait.

conan vs bear aynaku travel illustration

anuradhapura sri lanka aynaku travel illustration

Sitting on the ancient stony ground at dusk, I was contemplating Anuradhapura’s stunning monuments, surrounded by the solemn umbrage of trees, the silence of the cold stone, and the serenity of the sheltering sky. A man came and sat, his eyes wide open firmly looking at me. Suddenly he raised, took me by my right wrist politely, and said:
“The shape of your wrist is like mine: they both are the cobra’s shape”.
“What you do you mean?” I replied. And he:”Let me tell about your future life.”
Since my deep attitude has always been living the very moment, here and know, no matter what will be tomorrow, I declined politely his scaring offer and waited, sitting and watching that ancient city which was a model of planning in its days.

Darjeeling is a fascinating place rich in natural beauty and surrounded by the Himalayan range. The scenery are stunning: the roads snakes their way through rice fields, sub-tropical thick jungle, rocky valleys, endless roadside waterfalls, grassy tree-dotted plains, dense green forest and huge mountains!
