boston-inn-copy.jpg

In polluted, demanding and overwhelming Bangkok, the Boston Inn has been my favourite hide. This three-storeys little hotel was originally built by the American Army during the Viet Nam war, to lodge officers on their leaves. Located in Soi Dumpili, in a Bangok’s area where life “makes a hard man humble”, quoting a fashionable song, by the end of the 80’ the Boston Inn became a rather mismanaged and ran down place, the ultimate hide of some falang (white man) usually deeply involved with heroin and the like. This very reason kept away many tourists and travellers, making the Inn almost deserted. That’s way it was always easy to get a noiseless, spacious, well furnished double room (and the furniture was still the original from the 60’…) for a few bath. Moreover, for the same low price you would get the chance of bathing, whenever you liked, in the rear miniature-like swimming pool, something really necessary to survive Bangkok’s hot climate. My dislike for overcrowded guest houses and average tourists always drove me to the ghostly Boston Inn’s odd humankind: I still remember some instructive tips I got from the receptionist, a bad-looking and self-possessed Thai transvestite…

Molto divertente la tua illustrazione + la tua storia. Sembri una persona con molti anni dietro di te con tutte queste fabulose esperienze vissute!!!
Sono troppo curiosa…

What a cool little place! It’s funny they call it the Boston Inn? I wonder why? Love your illo, especially you in the pool and all the textures are great! Love this and thanks for another wonderful adventure!

i seem to remember said fasionable song about bangkok. was there but never to the boston inn.
like ur rendention of the city. ok for peek a poo. its a lil silly game adults play with babies. basiclly u hide ur face behind the palm of ur hands then pull them away fast while smiling with a big sloppy ear to ear grin on ur face and saying peek a boo while looking at said baby (who usually probably thinks ur not playinig with a full deck) and they laugh and giggle at it.
