narghile illustration travel aynku

A narghile is glass based water pipe device for smoking tobacco. Narghile is Persian words originating from Sanskrit since the original nargile came from India and it was made popular as the form we now see it in today in Turkey. A narghile operates by water-filtration and indirect heat. It can be used for smoking many substances, such as tobacco or hashish, the Arabic word for grass, which once referred not only to cannabis resin. The smoke is pulled down from the tobacco, and bubbles up through the water into the air of the smoke chamber. From there, it is drawn through the hose and inhaled by the smoker. Visiting Marocco and Tunisia I never become addicted to the narghile but nothing in the world would make me missed the ritual, at least once! At sunset in Meknes’s souk I sat and place my order: the waiter brought “my” narghile and after a few puffs, my thoughts were more vivid and confused…around me skilled Berber craftsmen elaborated jewelry. The beat of their hammers counter pointed to the sound of the water pipes and the smell of welding blended with that of tobacco…

I was wondering how you would manipulate your illsutration to include water. This is excellent. I always love the text that accompanies your illustrations.

Thanks for letting me know how you accomplish your amazing illustration feat every week. I assumed that you worked in illustrator because your work it so technically precise. Great piece, as usual.

Wow - amazing illustration and such an amazing life you have had. I am still convinced there is barely a place you have not been. I love the smoke shadows and the prints of the wallpaper and floor. And the expression is so perfect.
