Dance! Once in a lifetime –at least- a beachcomber happens to join full moon parties and happy dances. Sometimes parties are spontaneous: someone strikes up the band, so to say, a glass of rum in his hand and a few companions by his side…sometimes parties are carefully planned by beach resorts crafty owners and involve trendy disk-jockeys, fashionable people, hard drinking and much more…It all depends where you are. Goa made a reputations because of hers trendy and demanding parties. In Perhentian Island, east coast of Muslim and severe Malaysia, some “underground”, really freaky beach parties, due to the circumstances, where held under the pale moon light. Once felt almost illegal while drinking an absolutely expensive and rare bottle of beer, somehow imported from the mainland by some laic and enterprising chap…ah, ah.
In the volcanic island of Camuigin -Philippines- I sat once by a coconut tree all alone. Maybe it was the way I contemplated the enchanting sea, or the way I looked to the moon and the distant constellations, or just because beer was cheap (finally!) but I fancied mermaids and tritons dancing and rocking between the waves, sharks and eruptions, an almost mythical outlook you know…and tonight is full moon again!
Illustration Friday’s topic is dance

i spent many good evenings at beach parties… on cool nights with a bonfire and the self-absorbed guitar player were the best ones… of course a slow dance , barefoot with your honey never hurt…
I’m glad i grew up in a tropical paradise… before all the developers carved it up into stucco boxes for the rich yankees… (sorry rich yankees… but it’s true)…
looks like a heck of a party by the looks of your fab illo… again… well done…
It sounds like you have had an adventuresome life, and how wonderful that your art reflects that. I live about half a mile from the beach, and it’s finally that time of year again. Even though there are more people here, something in the air changes, and it’s a much more exciting place to be. You’ve captured the festive atmosphere so well in this illustration. And I love the image of “you” under the coconut tree, taking it all in.
ahhhh The PI sittin on the beach drinking ice cold san miglues. yep i remember parties like that. they were good times nice illo to brinfg back good times.
Wow! This is terrific! So much going on and the atmosphere and mood is amazing!
How beautiful! Full moon and the ocean… a coconut palm tree and dancing mermaids, what does one want more from life? You got me yearning for the sea!
(Are you sure it was just beer ;))
Very relaxed atmosphere and a summer night feeling well captured. Love the mermaids.
In Finland we have THE beach party, on beaches of every lake and sea, on Midsummer’s eve. Then everyone is staying up all night and the sun doesn’t go down at all. Also bondfires are burned, but normally only on water because of the danger of forest fires. Bondfires are built on old wooden boats which then are anchored on a lake or on sea.
And people fall in love and unmarried female are making midsummer magic (I’ve done, too), in the middle of the night women go out barefooted in their nightgowns and pick seven different flowers which are put under their pillow. They are supposed to see their future husband in their dream.
Wow! What a unique post! I love this and had no idea people still take acid!!! It was really popular when i was young but i thought everybody did ecstasy now. I suppose that is naive of me as people will take anything that is available… I love reading about this and your wonderful illo with the mermaids is delightful. Had I been in this vicinity I am quite sure I could have been induced into a Trance!
Life can be a beach! I just love this kind of moonlit party. Sweet aromas in the air, gentle waves making a music of their own ,and of course, the rockin’ mermaids.
Your way to paint is unique, allways a pleasure to stand by!
