bukit timah singapore jungle aynaku illustration adobe

Singapore and Rio de Janeiro are not normally associated with nature walks and jungle treks; yet they are the world’s only two cities to contain primary rainforest within their boundaries.
Established in 1883, the Bukit Timah Reserve
is located twelve km from Singapore’s centre. It is a 70 hectares reserve preserving a variety of animal species including flying lemurs and long-tailed macaque monkeys. It has also Singapore’s last stretches of original and manicured rain forest. Of the walks in the park, the most popular is the summit walk along a paved road which undulates through the dense jungle and its highest hill, the 164mt Bukit Timah. Even during the week it attracts a number of walkers: a very few visitors venture off the pavement to explore freely…Oddly enough, walking myself along it, I have been thinking how good this paved road was as a metaphor of “security” and also how security increasingly became the watchword of our western lives.
…Oddly enough, due to Illustration Friday’s topic, the old refrain “in the jungle, the mighty jungle the lions sleep tonite” has taking  over the back of my mind  more and more!

Once more you tantalize my eyes and mind with an exotic location to ports unknown to me! I love the picture, and have to ask about what looks to be steaming cups of liquid on the tops of these buildings, and I noticed a similar thing in one of your other posts. It looks cool but also teases my brain a little. I would love to know more details… Great post!!!

I love the way your picture contrasts manmade and natural. And you are right we are all too hooked on security.

We are so alike, Aynaku;) The song is truly in the air.
Interesting information! The urban jungle enclosed by the real jungle. Looking at your illustration its also fascinating to notice how the modern urban landscapes tend to consist from the same materials: this could be almost Seattle, this could be almost Berlin. Different line ups …

PS I left a comment on Beuysboys that doesnt show, did it get lost in the cypber jungle?

Thank you for sharing your visual and storytelling talents once again!

Interesting comment about security — it provokes some thought about the need for it and a comparison of the nature of humans versus creatures/beasts and two similarly predatory worlds …

Neat info and illustration!

Very nice. Illustrator or a simular program? Nice contrast, two distinctive environments, one world. Love your ‘Submarines’ post. Thanks too for stopping by my blog and your comments.
