Kovalam is maybe the southernmost beach of India. Since the mid-seventies, Kovalam has been reputed as a place not to be missed among freaks, budget travellers and beachcombers.
The times are changing and the fashion too… never mind! Kovalam is still a must for so many tourists who get there guided by the revolving beams of the local lighthouse. This lovely metaphor occurred to my mind while, about ten years ago, I found myself in Kovalam and, for some reason, stopped over there for two full months. I remember a rather dirty beach swept constantly by the rough sea that made swimming hazardous; above all, I remember the darkest nights broken by the spinning lights of this dominating lighthouse, a remarkable landmark even in daytime…
