clownfish

“small is beatiful” was a popular adage in Italy and it can be taken for the colourful, cute clownfish. Clownfish are relatively small organisms; fish in the wild can grow to a length of about 10 cm. Clownfish live in a mutual relationship with sea anemones. Once an anemone has been adopted, the clownfish will defend it vigorously. Clownfish are between my favourite underwater species due to their brilliant orange. My effort has been the rendering of that peculiar hue making use of a standard digital palette… hope I got it!

The Ramayana is an epic Hindu poem telling the story of the good Prince Rama’s crusade to rescue his bride (Sinta) from the evil king (Rahwana). The classical, enjoyable Javanese dance-drama performs the Ramayana throughout by the gentle, percussive chimes of the gamelan: needless to say, Rama ultimately defeats the demon king and is joyfully reunited with his bride.
Bilaan is a dance that depicts the lively, simple movements of birds in flight and as they preen themselves. This dance is performed by the etnic tribe Bilaan in Cotabato, Mindanao Island, the Philippines. The female dancers wear beautiful costumes.
I enjoyed both shows while in Yogyakarta and in Manila and both impressed me. My illustration doesn’t refer to a particular performance ( some Thai ballet should be also mentioned here….) but to a general south-east Asian ballet-concept that struck me greatly!
Let’s dance…
trip to berlin

Aynaku is going to Berlin this week. I participate to an art exhibition and surely I’ll forget my beloved Islands for a while. Maybe I am going to freeze a bit…alas! On the other side Berlin is quite an interesting city and the Berliners have done their best to bring the Tropics up there. As an Arab adage says “if Mohamed can’t go to the mountain, the mountain will go to Mohamed”…

Kovalam is maybe the southernmost beach of India. Since the mid-seventies, Kovalam has been reputed as a place not to be missed among freaks, budget travellers and beachcombers.
The times are changing and the fashion too… never mind! …
