paraw sail boat philippines aynaku illustration adobe

Typically Visayan, paraw is a fantastic sailing boat! Two bamboo outriggers and the coconut mid-body make up the craft. Everything is fixed firmly by strong fishing-line. Mainsail and jib, cut away from cheap plastic fabric, assure high speed. While riding such a boat, everything really looks unsteady. I enjoyed sailing paraws many times and did a bit of exciting island hopping around Siargao island

The Paraw Regatta was conceptualized to remind every Ilonggo that they descended from brown-skinned men and women who settled in the island of Panay and its neighboring small islands
